Breast Reconstruction Surgery: Potential Complications Explained

Line Spacing+- AFont Size+- Print This Article

Every surgery carries with it some risk. In ideal scenarios, the procedure goes perfectly and has a great outcome. However, that is not always the case, as complications can sometimes arise.

In the mastectomy and breast reconstruction procedures, the more common complications are minor wound-healing issues, minor infection, scarring, or contour issues. Occasionally, complications are more intense, such as a loss of skin, deeper infection, bleeding. Certain cases may require removal of the implant or other procedure.

It's important to remain optimistic and positive going into and coming out of a surgery - a key component to successful outcomes. Smokers will find it critical that they quit smoking before they intend to have a procedure done.
