Breast Implant Reconstruction Explained: Unilateral vs Bilateral

Line Spacing+- AFont Size+- Print This Article

Unilateral reconstruction is performed on one breast that has cancer. In the case that the mastectomy is performed on only one breast, reconstruction is performed on that same side. There are procedures that can be performed on the other breast to ensure symmetry.

Bilateral reconstruction is performed when the mastectomy is done on both breasts. In this case, the reconstructive outcomes are excellent in terms of achieving symmetrical breasts.
